the art of wasting time

well, not a post on slaying/transforming Chronos, but more like some of the games I’ve been into lately ;P

Besides completing my zombie clothes in Runescape, and Chad’s find, the veryzombie-getup hilarious text-based Kingdom of Loathing (.com)…

a few weeks ago I was looking around ebay and came across these dual NES/SNES systems which stoked fond memories of games from years ago. So I got one for my b-day and have been revisiting some of my favorite games…

Dungeon Master (SNES) is one of thee greatest games. One of the first first-person type of games as far as I know, with a sort of freeform symbol based magic and other nifty things. Basically, you start off reincarnating 4 characters from the Hall of Heros and then it’s down down down through the levels of a massive dungeon, conserving food and water (strategy sometimes being mostly about how to make to the next water fountain to fill waterskins), and lots of riddles to solve. All I remember from years ago is that I made it several levels down and started having to map it out on graph paper –had sheets and sheets of the stuff scribbled on. So it’s a tedious and fun obsession.

Then there’s Dragon Warrior 3 and 4. Can’t wait to dig into 4 again. DW was the first RPG with freedom to move around the world map // not predetermined. Then for cheese’s sake, got Fester’s Quest -made it to the end before but never beat the final boss –save that for a particularly lazy rainy day
